The Divergent series & A Song of Ice and Fire

23 August 2014

In my post today, I would like to talk about books: the Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth and A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, as I am very sure that everyone is now familiar with both the series.

Throughout the past recent months of the year, I have been indulging myself in reading; and I enjoyed that. I have recently blogged about the Fifty Shades trilogy too, you can read it here.

The Divergent series is a series of young adult fiction written by Veronica Roth, where the first Divergent movie was released early this year, her books and the trilogy has become the New York's Bestseller. Her first book, Divergent, won the Best Young Adult Fantasy in 2012.

The books feature the post-apocalyptic life in Chicago in which survivors divide into five factions based on their dispositions: Abnegation, for the selfless; Amity, for the peaceful; Candor, for the honest; Dauntless, for the brave; and Erudite, for the intelligent. Each year, all sixteen-year-olds must take an aptitude test that describes the one faction for which they are best suited. After receiving the results, they can decide whether to remain with their family's faction or transfer to a new faction. Those who do not complete initiation into their new faction become "Factionless", and are forced to live in poverty on the streets of the city.

I have enjoyed the series very much and the recent publishing of Four: A Divergent Collection, I have gotten hold of the new book sometime after it was published worldwide. I have not read it yet, but I suppose I will soon.

And I cannot wait for the movie sequel to Divergent: Insurgent!

The next series is A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. This is not a stranger to everyone who watches the TV series "Game of Thrones" (hurray)!

It takes place in a fictional world wherein seasons last for years on end. They consist of Seven Noble Houses: Arryn, Baratheon, Greyjoy, Lannister, Stark, Targaryen, Tully. You can see the symbols of each House in the photo below:

Season Four of the show have ended earlier this April, and Season Five will air next year, and the wait is horrendous, seriously. I am obsessed with the show and I certainly cannot wait to read all the books (in which the last two books are not published yet)! Warning: it's not for the faint hearted, the books and the show.

Valar Morghulis.

What kind of books do you like?
